So finally I get around to the temples. Banteay Srei was the first temple we visited on our all-day excursion. Although much of it is blocked off, it remains an intimate, detailed temple. Everywhere you look in the temple, some scene from Hindu mythology is carved into the sandstone. And compared to the vast, sprawling temples like Angor Wat or Preah Khan, Banteay Srei seems almost like a miniature.
It's a hoof to get to, which weeds out a lot of the crowd. But it you were expecting to have it for yourself, the German tour buses will come as a disappointment.
The morning sun seems espacially generous here -- the temple faces east and the pink sandstone just glows if you arrive early enough to catch it.
