Monster Friday: King Kong
King Kong has the same general story as Creature from the Black Lagoon, with the addition of marketing:
- Monster minding his own business in his little slice of monster paradise.
- Man discovers said paradise, disrupting the monster's groove.
- Monster retaliates in the only way he knows how,
by killing everyoneby stealing the girl. - Man retaliates in the only way he knows how
by establishing a wilderness areaby killing monster, and thereby rescuing girl.
Only in King Kong's case there's an additional step:
- Monster minding his own business in his little slice of monster paradise. (same)
- Man discovers said paradise, disrupting the monster's groove. (same)
- Monster retaliates in the only way he knows how,
by killing everyoneby stealing the girl. (same) - Man takes behemoth and tries to make as much money as he possibly can, endangering everyone in the process. (new!)
- Man retaliates in the only way he knows how
by establishing a wilderness areaby killing monster, and thereby rescuing girl. (same)
Now, I worked at AOL, so I know all about that additional step #4. (Ads in the email compose screen? Really?) So it's a tale of Man not only being a jerk, but a greedy jerk - trying to control something he didn't understand to make a buck (derivatives trading, anyone?)(oh, the metaphors abound!).
Anyway, the detail I love about this model is the the not-so-little lizards King Kong is stepping on (he's such a brute!). And I'm not so sure how he scooped-up the Bride of Frankenstein, but that hair product sure does hold up!
