Camerama 06

Camerama #1

I suppose it's only appropriate for this year's Camerama to end like it began -- with a vaguely disturbing photo of a life-sized mannequin.

From my recent trip to Oklahoma, in a storefront in El Reno:

13.47 inches later, the rain has stopped. No flooding here at the homestead. But on my morning walk on trash day, a surprizing number of houses had curbside displays of carpet and other tell-tale signs of uninvited water in the basement.

And that's what I don't like about the South. Humidity at 98%.

Yes, I'm gonna finish this damn Camarama thing if it takes all summer. [Note to self: 30 photos in 30 days, way too much.]

It's been a while since we've checked in with the cats. Today is a "look at them then, look at them now" celebration. Or event. Maybe exhibition. Nonetheless, photos.

Yesterday seemed a good time to run the tourist gamut and go to the zoo. The strategy was to get there early (9:30), see the baby sloth bear, and leave within the hour (the parking jumps from a steep but reasonable $4 to a monopolistic usurious $12 after an hour).

We completed the mission sucessfully, as evidenced from the below photos.

Oh you knew it was coming. This silly Camerama thing, visiting the arboretum, azaleas, new close-up lens. And you were right:

Went to the National Arboretum on Sunday. Mom was in town and the azaleas were at their peak. Fish pond outside the visitor's center:

As you can probably guess, I'm not going to make my Camerama end-of-April deadline -- what with switching web hosts & all the coding fun that has been. Not to worry, though. Because of the countdown nature of the titles, I can't really leave it hanging at #7, then can I. So I'll chug through into May, and hopefully be down to #1 before heading to Utah.

On today's menu, blanching spinach.

Spring marks the start of the Crap-from-the-Trees season. On this week's menu, helicopters and oaky pollen pom-poms. Debris from our deck:
